This is Zorba. No one really knows why it is called Zorba (it was a random code name given to this type of scrap by The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries), but what we do know is that it is shredded non-ferrous material which is primarily aluminium.
The lovely pile in the photo is polished Zorba, which has been picked for impurities so the customer has a clean product delivered directly to them.
Zorba is taken from any item that has aluminium in it whether that’s an engine, a push chair, a bus side or white goods.
By the time you read this post that pile of Zorba will be in a container on a not-so-slow boat to China.
